At Dunchurch Boughton C of E Junior Academy, we believe that excellent attendance is the foundation for every child’s success. Being in school every day helps children build strong learning habits, develop positive relationships, and make the most of the opportunities school offers. Even small amounts of missed learning can add up quickly, so we work closely with families to support good attendance from the very start.
Why attendance matters
Good attendance is strongly linked to positive progress, confidence, and wellbeing. When children attend regularly, they are more settled, more engaged, and better able to achieve their full potential. We encourage all families to prioritise daily attendance and punctuality so that every child can thrive.
Working together
We know that good attendance is a partnership between home and school. Our staff monitor attendance closely and are always here to listen, understand and offer support if challenges arise. If your child is experiencing difficulties that may affect their attendance, please speak to us so we can help.
Reporting absence
If your child is unable to attend school, please contact the school office on the first morning of absence—and each day following—letting us know the reason and the expected date of return. This helps us keep children safe and ensures our records remain accurate.
Holidays in term time
Families are reminded that holidays during term time can only be authorised in exceptional circumstances. Requests must be made in advance using our Academy Leave of Absence form. We ask all parents to plan holidays outside of term dates to avoid disruption to learning.
Celebrating attendance
To help keep families informed, we provide an attendance certificate for every child at the end of each half-term.
Together, we can build strong routines, positive habits and a culture where every child can enjoy and benefit from being in school every day.
