Computing
Content awaiting 2024/2025 update
Our vision for computing is for children to be able to…
- Use software and hardware with confidence and purpose.
- Know how to keep safe online and what to do if they find themselves in an unsafe situation.
- Critically evaluate the information they obtain from the internet.
- Use technology to enhance their learning across the curriculum.
- Access equipment and a curriculum that constantly evolves in light of technological advancement.
We have a range of ICT equipment in school to give children a broad experience. Computing including e-safety is taught explicitly for an hour each week and is also used throughout the other subjects.
At Dunchurch, we facilitate the teaching of Computing using the Teach Computing Curriculum Scheme of work created by The National Centre for Computing Education, so that our pupils will have the confidence and motivation to continue to further develop their skills into the next stage of their education and life experiences. Progressive keyboard and computing skills are interweaved throughout the scheme and are then used to support learning in a cross curricular capacity. The Teach Computing scheme of work model allows children to build upon their prior knowledge and increases their enthusiasm for the topics whilst embedding this procedural knowledge into the long-term memory so that children know more and remember more.
