French
Our vision for Modern Foreign Language is for pupils…
- to develop a positive attitude and respect for language and cultures others than their own.
- to be curious about and deepen their understanding of the world around them and their own language.
- to acquire and develop language skills with increasing competence and confidence.
All children have specialist French teaching each week from Year 3 onwards.
It has been recognised that the earlier pupils are involved in foreign language learning, the more likely they are to become competent in listening and speaking the language.
Effective learning of French provides additional opportunities for pupils of all abilities to develop their skills of communication by listening, speaking, reading and writing. Observational study and social skills are also enhanced. Pupils can be creative, engage in role-play and gain experience of working co-operatively in class.
French at Dunchurch Boughton Junior School is designed to encourage the development of positive attitudes, an enthusiasm towards language learning, and an appreciation of another culture and to provide maximum opportunities for pupils to hear and speak the language. Children will be able to communicate in French on a range of general personal topics, developing their understanding and skills through a variety of language learning activities.
